|HOME| In a bold move to restore order and ensure the sustainable development of Uyo, the Uyo Capital City Development Authority (UCCDA) has inaugurated a Special Development Control Enforcement Team. This strategic initiative was unveiled today at the Authority’s headquarters as part of ongoing efforts to address the city’s growing urban management challenges.

Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, the Chairman of UCCDA, Hon Anietie Eka emphasized the urgent need to combat street trading, the indiscriminate proliferation of illegal motor parks, the rise of unlicensed fuel and gas stations, and the growing menace of illegal structures across the city.

“This enforcement team is a vital step in our mission to uphold the city’s functionality. His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno has a vision to build a world class city capable of attracting investors and has provided all logistics to get this done. Uyo is a capital city, and it must reflect order, safety, and sustainable growth. Street trading and illegal activities not only disrupt urban planning but also pose serious safety risks to our residents. We will not allow this to continue unchecked,” Eka said.

The Special Development Control Enforcement Team,SDCET, which is made up of the representatives of Security Agencies in the State, and representatives from the five LGAs making up the Capital City is equipped with trained personnel and resources to ensure compliance with urban development regulations. The team is tasked with monitoring, enforcing, and dismantling structures and activities that violate the city’s ordinances and environmental standards.

As the City managers “We are giving everyone fair notice to comply voluntarily. Fuel and gas stations are advised to display a photocopy of their approval at the entrance of their stations before the 31st of January 2025 which is the commencement date for the clearing exercise. The City Boss called on the team to carry out her duties diligently without fear or favour knowing that they are backed by the law.

Also speaking, the Secretary /Head of Administration of UCCDA, ADM Anietie Akpan applauded HE, Pastor Umo Eno for the gift of Hon Anietie Eka to UCCDA. He is Proactive , pragmatic, diligent, insightful and has the good of the City at heart. We are not in doubt that he will sanitize the city.

In his remarks as the Head of Town planning unit of the Authority, TPL Edidiong Edoho reiterated the readiness of the Authority to sanitize the city to create room for infrastructural improvements and green spaces adding that the city is fast becoming a shadow of its former self.

In his vote of thanks, the Special Adviser to the Chairman on Technical Matters, Dr Koffi Ayadu commended the City Boss for this initiative. He said there is no better time to act than now if we will realize the vision of His Excellency as enshrined in the ARISE agenda

As the enforcement team gets to work, the UCCDA Chairman has urged residents and business owners to cooperate and embrace the vision of a well-planned and orderly Uyo. We are not here to witch-hunt anybody but to do the right thing, Eka added.
