1. Military Records 367 Attacks, Rescues 655 Kidnap Victims In September
The Nigerian military recorded 367 attacks across its various operational theatres in September 2026, the Defence Headquarters has disclosed.
The figures were released on Wednesday, September 30, by the Director, Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Michael Onoja, during a briefing on the military’s operations and achievements during the month.
Operation Enduring Peace recorded the highest number of incidents with 147 attacks. It was followed by Operation Fansan Yamma with 115 and Operation Whirl Stroke with 55.
Operation Hadin Kai recorded 33 attacks, while Operation Savannah Shield recorded 13 and Operation Udo Ka recorded four. No attack was recorded under Operation Delta Safe during the period.
Onoja said troops responded to the attacks by engaging the assailants and using superior firepower and tactical manoeuvres to repel them.
He said, “During the period under review, the AFN recorded a total of 367 attacks across various theatres of operation. Operation HADIN KAI recorded 33 attacks, Operation FANSAN YAMMA recorded 115, Operation SAVANNAH SHIELD recorded 13, Operation ENDURING PEACE recorded 147, Operation WHIRL STROKE recorded 55, and Operation UDO KA (OPUK) recorded 4, while Operation DELTA SAFE recorded no attacks.
2. Nigeria’s Senate Unveils Plans For National Security Summit
The Senate on Tuesday unveiled plan to hold a National Security Summit on strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
The Senate President, Godswill Akpabio announced that the summit will hold from October 12 to 13.
He announced dates during plenary on Tuesday, September 29, in Abuja.
Akpabio said the summit, entitled “Strengthening Nigeria’s National Security Architecture: Innovation, Collaboration and Resilience in a Changing World,” would commence at 9 a.m. daily.
He said the summit would hold at the International Conference Centre, Abuja, and provide an opportunity for stakeholders to deliberate on strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture.
3. CARSPO 2026: IGP Disu Commends Lenders Consult CEO, Shina Phillips, For Professionalism
Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, has commended the Chief Executive Officer, CEO of Lenders Consult, Dr. Shina Phillips, for his professionalism and contribution to the successful organisation of Conference And Retreat For Senior Police Officers, CARSPO, 2026, that took place in Owerri from September 21 to 23.
IGP Disu praised Phillips for ensuring the smooth running and professional presentation of the programme, noting that the conference had so far progressed without hitches.
The Inspector-General also commended Lenders Consult for putting together what he described as an impressive programme, expressing satisfaction with the organisation of the conference and the calibre of experts assembled for the event
Speaking about his experience at CARSPO 2026, Disu described the programme as a wonderful initiative, saying his initial concerns were allayed after witnessing the calibre of lecturers and experts participating in the conference.
4. Drug, Cybercrime Proceeds Now Target Elections — EFCC
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has raised concerns over the deployment of illicit funds, including proceeds from drug trafficking, cybercrime and stolen public funds, to finance elections in Nigeria.
The Commission and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, also pledged to intensify efforts to tackle vote buying and selling as part of measures to restore public confidence in the electoral process.
They spoke on Wednesday at a Stakeholder Roundtable on Electoral Reform and Youth Participation, organised by Kimpact Development Initiative, KDI, in Abuja.
Representing the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, a senior operative of the Commission, Adikwu Micheal, said the agency was concerned about the implications of unchecked vote buying.
“We at the Commission are interested in vote buying and selling. I have been involved in elections since 2003, even before I joined the EFCC. INEC reforms have made the voter’s card valuable,” he said.
5. Army Begins Work On New Operational Base In Benue
The Nigerian Army, NA, commenced renovation and development works at its 11 Brigade headquarters in Gboko area of Benue State, as part of efforts to strengthen its operational presence in the state.
General Officer Commanding, GOC, 5 Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Moses Gara, disclosed this during an operational visit to the brigade, where he inspected accommodation facilities and ongoing renovation works at the headquarters.
General Gara, who was accompanied by the Garrison Commander, 5 Division, Makurdi, Brigadier General MD Abdulsalam, and other principal officers of the division and Joint Task Force Operation Whirl Stroke, JTF OPWS, also assessed the welfare of troops and the operational readiness of the brigade.
6. Amnesty International Condemns Arrest Of 5 Men Wearing “Tinubu Must Go” T-Shirts In Borno
Amnesty International, AI, has condemned the reported detention of five men by the Borno State Police Command for allegedly wearing T-shirts bearing the inscription, “Tinubu Must Go,” in Maiduguri.
A statement attributed to AI, which was circulating on social media on Tuesday, identified the men as Baba Aji Gremami, Mustapha Abba Yemen, Abacha Mohammed Ali, Adam Umar Gubio and Abdulhamid Mohammed.
It is alleged that the men were remanded in prison after being accused of intending to breach the public peace around the West-End Roundabout/Flyover area of Maiduguri.
According to the statement, wearing a T-shirt expressing peaceful political dissent should not constitute a criminal offence, adding that expressing political opposition was part of fundamental human rights.
7. Navy Rescues Two Kidnap Victims, Recovers Stolen Engines In Akwa Ibom
The Nigerian Navy Ship, NNS, Jubilee says it has rescued two kidnap victims and recovered stolen outboard engines during an operation along the Ibeno waterways in Akwa Ibom.
The commander, Commodore Mohammed Manga, made the disclosure to journalists in Uyo on Wednesday, September 30.
Commodore Manga said that the operation followed an intelligence report received by the NNS Jubilee Maritime Quick Response Team.
The commander said that the report disclosed suspected activities of sea robbers and kidnappers who mainly target fishermen.
He said that the suspected kidnappers forcibly took away fishing boats and outboard engines from fishermen.
The naval officer said that personnel of the response team, in conjunction with a community surveillance outfit, mobilised to the area to counter the criminal activities.
8. ICPC Ranks Among Nigeria’s Most Transparent Public Institutions
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, ICPC, has reinforced its standing as one of Nigeria’s leading public institutions in transparency and institutional integrity, recording an impressive 80.13 per cent in the 2026 Transparency and Integrity Index, TII.
The latest assessment by the Centre for Fiscal Transparency and Public Integrity, CeFTPI, placed the Commission second among 518 federal institutions assessed nationwide, and among only four institutions that attained the Index’s “Excellent” performance band of 70 per cent and above.
ICPC’s performance represents a further improvement on its 2025 rating, when the Commission scored 78.13 per cent and placed third among 575 institutions. Its score rose by two percentage points to 80.13 per cent in 2026, moving the Commission from third to second position nationally.
Welcoming the rating, the Chairman of the ICPC, Dr. Musa Adamu Aliyu, SAN, expressed delight at the Commission’s performance, describing the outcome as an encouragement to deepen the institutional reforms and transparency measures being implemented by the Commission.
“I am delighted that the progress we are making as a Commission is being independently recognised. For an anti-corruption agency, we understand that we must not only demand transparency, accountability and integrity from other public institutions; we must also demonstrate these values in our own systems and operations,” the Chairman said.
9. NAFDAC Secures Conviction of Lagos Trader, Others Over illegal Importation, Distribution Of Fake Drugs
A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos presided over by Justice Musa Kakaki convicted and sentence a Lagos trader, Elwah Chigbogu and two companies, Profile & Well Pharmaceutical Limited and God of Elwjah Nigeria Limited to a fine of N1.5 million over illegal possession of fake drugs, distribution and importation of unregistered drugs.
Justice Kakaki convicted and sentenced Elwah Chigbogu and the two companies owned by him following thier guilty plea to a four counts charge of unlawful possession, distribution and importation of unregistered drugs filed by counsel to the National Agency for Food Drug Administration and Control, NAFDAC, Mr. Bartholomew Simon and argued by Anita Madu Esq.
NAFDAC arraigned Elwah Chigbogu and two companies, Profile & Well Phamaceutical Limited and God of Elwjah Nigeria Limited before Justice Musa Kakaki on four counts charge bothering on unlawful possession of fake drugs, importation of unregistered drugs and distribution of unregistered drugs.
10. FRSC Urges Special Marshals To Embrace Data-driven Road Safety
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has urged its special marshals to embrace strategic partnerships, technology and data-driven interventions to enhance road safety and reduce Road Traffic Crashes (RTCs), fatalities and injuries across the country.
The Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, made the call at the 2026 Special Marshals Zonal Conference in Abuja.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the theme of the conference is: “Repositioning Special Marshals for Greater Impact through Strategic Partnership and Data-Driven Road Safety Interventions.”
Mohammed, who was represented by Pauline Olaye, the Deputy Corps Marshal (DCM), Administration and Human Resources, said the theme reflected the realities of contemporary road safety management and the need for innovative approaches to achieving sustainable results.
He said the conference was a strategic forum to strengthen collaboration, enhance operational efficiency and promote the advancement of the Special Marshals scheme across the 12 zones of the FRSC.

1. ADAMAWA STATE:
✅ Combined security teams successfully repelled an attempted terrorist attack on Dabna Village, with no casualty recorded among Police personnel, and normalcy restored to the area.
Troops successfully repelled another terrorist attack on 226 Battalion, Garkida, resulting in the recovery of one dead terrorist, while fleeing insurgents were pursued.

2. KATSINA STATE:
✅ Police tactical teams successfully engaged suspected armed bandits who attempted to abduct commuters along the Funtua–Zaria Highway, forcing them to flee into the bush.
Four kidnap victims were successfully rescued unhurt from a white truck.
🔹 Status: SCID Katsina Investigating.
3. KATSINA STATE:
✅ Safer Highway Patrol operatives successfully intercepted a Toyota bus during routine stop-and-search along the Daura–Kongolam–Maiadua Road.
One suspect was arrested and 159 electric detonators suspected to be components of improvised explosive devices were successfully recovered and secured.
🔹 Status: SCID Katsina Investigating.
4. ANAMBRA STATE:
✅ Police operatives, acting on intelligence, successfully rescued a victim who had been forcibly overpowered by suspected cult gang members along Ifite Road.
The tricycle used by the suspects was successfully recovered, while the identities of the fleeing suspects were established.

5. SOKOTO STATE:
✅ Police operatives, acting on credible intelligence, successfully arrested a suspected armed bandit at Tangaza Market.
One stolen goat was successfully recovered from the suspect and identified by its owner.

6. OGUN STATE:
✅ Police successfully recovered a cut-to-size locally made firearm concealed in a banana plantation near a canal at Ijako.
🔹 Status: SCID Abeokuta Investigating.
7. TARABA STATE:
✅ Four suspects were successfully arrested for alleged illegal mining activities at Timan Mountain.
Mining implements and other exhibits were successfully recovered from the suspects.
