The Federal Government has pledged its commitment to the successful completion and operation of the Ibom Medical City project as part of efforts to transform healthcare delivery and reduce medical tourism in Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria at large.

The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, gave the assurance during the unveiling of the project in Uyo on Tuesday.

Pate commended the Akwa Ibom State Government for its vision and commitment to healthcare transformation, saying the Medical City project aligns with the Federal Government’s healthcare reform agenda under President Bola Tinubu.

The Ibom Medical City project is designed by the Akwa Ibom State Government to transform healthcare delivery, reduce medical tourism, and position the state as a leading destination for specialised healthcare services in Nigeria and beyond.

“You have shown remarkable vision, commitment and passion for your people. What we are witnessing here today reflects the aspirations of the Federal Government’s healthcare reform agenda.

“Let me assure the state government of the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting the successful completion and operation of the project,” Pate said

The minister also pledged to facilitate engagement with Nigerian healthcare professionals in the diaspora who may be willing to contribute their expertise to the development of the Medical City and the country’s healthcare sector.
