According to the notice, the new system is part of ongoing reforms by the state government aimed at improving transparency, accountability, and efficiency in revenue collection across the state.

AKIRS stated that with the new arrangement, payments will no longer be made through informal channels, as all transactions are expected to be processed electronically via the official portal at akwaremit.akwaibomstate.gov.ng.

The agency noted that the initiative is designed to curb revenue leakages, enhance record-keeping, and ensure that government funds are properly accounted for.

Taxpayers seeking further clarification were advised to visit the AKIRS Service Support Centre at the Corporate Headquarters, Revenue House, Udo Udoma Avenue, Uyo, or any AKIRS office statewide. Enquiries can also be made through the agency’s dedicated phone lines.

The notice was signed by the Executive Chairman, Okon Okon, who urged residents and businesses in the state to comply fully with the new payment process in the interest of good governance and public development.
