The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, has said recent criticisms of the party by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) are driven by fear, jealousy and intimidation over the APC’s ongoing nationwide membership registration exercise.

The APC recently announced a surge in new memberships following the launch of its digital registration drive. The development has drawn criticism from opposition parties, including the ADC, which accused the ruling party of coercing and pressuring civil servants to participate in the exercise.

Reacting to the allegations in a statement, Morka dismissed the claims as false and unfounded.

“That claim is entirely false and baseless and is aimed at casting a shadow over the cutting-edge and pathbreaking digitisation of our party’s membership register,” he said. “It forms part of the ADC’s disinformation campaign, which included the fabrication and circulation of a fake ‘APC membership slip’ purporting that a notorious terrorist had registered as a member of the APC.”

Morka attributed the large turnout in the registration exercise to the impact of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which he said has begun to yield tangible results and inspire Nigerians to voluntarily align with the ruling party.

“Inspired by the visible gains and impact of the Renewed Hope Agenda, millions of Nigerians have registered and continue to register voluntarily and enthusiastically as members of our party,” he said.

According to him, the overwhelming response compelled the party’s leadership to extend the registration period from January 31 to February 8, 2026, to accommodate more prospective members.

Morka further argued that the ADC’s reaction reflects its discomfort with the ruling party’s growing popularity but said this did not justify what he described as deliberate misinformation.

“Clearly, the ADC is intimidated by the phenomenal success of our party’s e-registration exercise,” he said. “However, that cannot justify concocting and peddling falsehoods in an attempt to smear the process.”

He added that while opposition parties continue to “fumble and trade in disinformation,” the APC remains focused on consolidating its reforms and advancing what he described as Africa’s standard for digital and democratic innovation.

During a joint address by the APC national Secretary and the national publicity secretary, Bashiru described the e-registration as a historic milestone for the APC, saying it reflects not just membership growth but also a commitment to compliance, transparency, and global outreach.

Morka, who was also in attendance, said the exercise has been tremendously successful and that the party is already ahead of INEC in capturing accurate membership data.
