Former Zamfara State Governor and Senator representing Zamfara West, Abdul’aziz Abubakar Yari, has formally accepted his appointment as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 election.

Yari made his position known in a statement issued on Saturday, August 22, 2026, following his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to lead the APC campaign council.

The Presidency had earlier announced the constitution of the campaign council, with Tinubu serving as Chairman, Vice President Kashim Shettima as Vice Chairman I and APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, as Vice Chairman II.

Yari was also named Director-General, while Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, will serve as Secretary.

In his acceptance message, Yari expressed gratitude to President Tinubu and the APC leadership for the confidence reposed in him, stressing that he did not take the responsibility lightly.

“I accept this responsibility with deep gratitude and full seriousness,” Yari said.

The former governor described the campaign as more than an election, saying it would provide an opportunity to engage Nigerians across the country on the future they seek to build together.

“A campaign is more than an election. It is a conversation with the Nigerian people in every state, every language, every faith about the future we are building together,” he said.

Yari said the campaign council would lead the conversation with discipline, unity, respect and a commitment to earning the confidence of Nigerians through its record rather than noise.
