Before you publish: Check the email address below is monitored. Use this page’s address as the “Data deletion instructions URL” in your Meta app settings. This draft was written to match how the website works, but it is not legal advice; have it checked by your lawyer. Delete this box before publishing.
You can ask The News Desk to delete the personal information we hold about you at any time. Here is how.
Newsletter subscribers
Click “Unsubscribe” at the bottom of any newsletter. You will stop receiving it straight away. If you also want your address removed entirely rather than kept on a do-not-email list, ask us using the steps below.
Everyone else
- Email publisher@thenewsdesk.ng with the subject “Data deletion request”, or use our contact form.
- Tell us the email address (and, if relevant, the phone number or name) you used with us, and what you would like deleted: for example contact messages, comments, newsletter records, or advertising and submission details.
- We may ask you to confirm the request from that email address so we know it is really you.
- We will confirm when the deletion is done, within the time data-protection law allows, usually within 30 days.
What we may need to keep
Some records must be kept by law, such as invoices and payment records, for as long as tax and accounting rules require. Published journalism, including a press release or notice you paid us to publish, may stay online where it is in the public interest; we will tell you if that applies and why. Anything we keep is used only for that purpose.
Facebook, Instagram and X
We use apps connected to Facebook, Instagram and X only to publish our own stories to our own accounts. Readers do not sign in to our website with these services, and we do not receive readers’ information from them. If you have interacted with our pages on those platforms, you can manage or delete that activity in your account settings there; if you think we hold something about you from them, contact us as above and we will delete it.
More detail is in our Privacy Policy.
