The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA has arrested a 34-year-old Ugandan woman, Faridah Nansubuga, at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA, Lagos, for allegedly attempting to smuggle 87 wraps of cocaine to her country.
The drugs, weighing 1.150 kilogrammes, were allegedly concealed around her pelvic region and held in place beneath two layers of underwear.
In a statement on Sunday, November 8, 2026, Femi Babafemi, the agency’s spokesperson, said Ms Nansubuga was intercepted during a joint passenger screening exercise involving NDLEA operatives and aviation security personnel at Terminal 2 of the airport.
He said the suspect was preparing to board a flight to Uganda when officers noticed a substance concealed around her pelvic region, prompting a secondary search in a designated private room.
According to Mr Babafemi, the search led to the recovery of 87 wraps of cocaine strapped around her pelvic region.
He said the suspect arrived in Nigeria on October 29, 2026, alongside members of her church for a spiritual renewal programme at the Synagogue Church of All Nations, SCOAN, in the Ikotun-Egbe area of Lagos.
Mr Babafemi said the other members of her delegation returned to Uganda after the prayer session, while Ms Nansubuga allegedly stayed behind to collect the consignment on behalf of a friend identified as Joy.
The spokesperson said the suspect told investigators that Ms Joy connected her with a contact in Nigeria, who arranged for a vehicle to convey her to a hotel on the morning of her scheduled departure.
According to him, the unidentified man handed her the cocaine and instructed her to conceal it beneath her clothing to evade airport security screening.
“She claimed no definite fee was agreed for the trip, but that she expected to be paid not less than US$1,000 on successful delivery,” he said.
