In its continued effort to foster collaboration with multinational companies and organizations in Akwa Ibom State, the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Akwa Ibom State Council, on Tuesday hosted Ibom Developers, FZE and SWEDA Energy Limited at the NUJ Press Centre, Uyo.
Welcoming the visitors, the NUJ State Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John, expressed appreciation to the companies for considering the Union a worthy partner, assuring that the trust reposed in the Council would not be taken for granted.
He particularly commended the companies’ media consultant, Mrs. Uduak Ekpo, for her professionalism and dedication, noting that not every media personality entrusted with such responsibility delivers with excellence.
He described her work as proof that diligence and commitment attract divine favor and recognition, both for individuals and for NUJ members.
Comrade John further applauded Mrs. Ekpo for maintaining cordial relations with colleagues despite her professional advancement, urging her to sustain the spirit.
Commending Ibom Developers for choosing Akwa Ibom as an investment hub, the NUJ Chairman pledged the Council’s commitment to building a strong, mutually beneficial relationship between the state media and the company.
He, however, emphasized the importance of corporate social responsibility (CSR), urging the company to prioritize host community engagement and fair employment practices.
“Always negotiate with the host community for peace. Consult widely, involve them in employment opportunities and provide training where necessary to make indigenes employable,” John advised.
He cautioned against repeating the experience of a previous company which, despite government and community support, gave little back in return.
