Alhaji Mogaji Ibrahim-Olaniyan, the National Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), on Tuesday advocated integration of students into the committee to effectively curb rate of crimes across Nigeria.

He stated this at the inauguration of PCRC Kebbi chapter at the Presidential Lodge in Birnin Kebbi.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Dr Saratu Mohammed-Mera emerged the new State Chairman alongside 24 other executive and ex-officio members, who will run the affairs of the committee for the next four years.

The national chairman charged the new executive to be alive to their responsibilities, saying “do not sit down at the state capital and call yourselves executives.

“Please move out and work with the government, work with the Police and visit all our schools, let’s see your reports; we need to catch our children young now; don’t wait, prevention is better than when they become criminals, don’t allow that to happen.”

Ibrahim-Olaniyan noted with satisfaction that the Inspector General of Police had put in place a new director of focal corps, adding that the body was saddled with the responsibility of preventing “our children to go into drugs and other social vices”.

“We are to work with them through the office of the force PRO and the office of state PRO, work with them, engage our youths, let’s see you also engaging both women and youths.”

Gov. Nasir Idris of Kebbi, who was represented by Commissioner for Home Affairs and Internal Security, Alhaji Sama’ila Yakubu-Augie, assured that his administration remained a government that had passion for security.

While applauding the efforts of PCRC in assisting the police to achieve its constitutional role, the governor encouraged them to sustain the tempo for the common good of all.

Idris urged the new excos to work in synergy and collaboration so that collectively they could achieve the set goals and objectives of the committee, assuring that the state government was doing everything possible to make their work better.

Wife of Kebbi Governor, Hajiya Zainab-Nasare Idris, represented by Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Hajiya Halima Muhammad-Bamde, assured of her office readiness to support the PCRC.

She called on the new exco to curb the rapid spread of social vices, especially amongst the youth, to build a sound future generation
