The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Lagos State Command, on Monday, arrested two female suspects (names withheld) between the ages of 48 and 50, over alleged production of fake fruit juice known as ‘Barkas Juice.’
The alleged fake fruit juice production involves mixing water, synthetic chemical flavourings, industrial sweeteners, artificial colourants, and chemical preservatives and completely omitting real fruit.
The suspects were rounded up when operatives of the Badagry Command, after about five days of surveillance, working in close knit with the Nigerian Army formation in the area, repelled all threats of resistance by some violent, unscrupulous youthful elements attempting to stop them from carrying out a swift, seamless and clinical operation which later led to the bust of the fake fruit juice factory in Badagry.
The State Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Adedotun Keshinro, said the consistent community engagements being organised to sensitise stakeholders in various communities in the state have continued to build trust and lasting friendship between the general public and the NSCDC in Lagos State, resulting in ceaseless information and intelligence sharing with the Command’s formations in the state.
In a related development, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Command, has arrested three suspected members of an organised criminal syndicate for allegedly vandalising Nigerian National Petroleum Company, NNPC, pipelines in the Dafa area of Kwali Area Council, Abuja.
The FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, who briefed journalists at the Kwali Divisional Office m, disclosed that the arrests were achieved through intelligence led operations, prolonged surveillance and active community collaboration.
He stated that operatives intercepted a commercial truck with registration number MAK 159 XA (Niger) loaded with 17 severed pieces of high-pressure NNPC petroleum pipes.
The affected infrastructure was originally built to supply crude oil and other petroleum products to the Kaduna Refinery and distribute the same to depots across the country.
The arrested suspects were identified as Maitama Inuwa, 30 who is the truck driver from Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Yahuza Danlami, 32, the motor boy and Yasir Abdulrahman, 26, from Niger State, who acted as the representative of the illicit pipe dealers.
Explaining their modus operandi, Odumosu noted that the vandals typically operate in remote and forested areas where the pipelines transit through the FCT.
