With just two weeks to the official commencement of governorship campaigns nationwide, the people of Ibesikpo-Asutan LGA of Akwa Ibom State have pledged to work for the reelection of President Bola Tinubu; Senator Akpabio and Gov. Umo Eno. They spoke in unison during a courtesy visit to the Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah at his country home in Uyo. The visitors comprised APC chieftains, business leaders and members of the academia from the LGA. They went primarily to thank the SSG for his service to the state; his support to the local government area and to formally congratulate him on his election as the Political Leader of Uyo Federal Constituency.
Led by the Chairman of the LGA, Evangelist Edidiong Inyang, the stakeholders expressed their appreciation to SSG for his service to the state and loyalty to the governor and government.
It was an evening of good speeches and camaraderie. The meeting opened with a praise and worship session led by Apostle Usen Eduok, Chairman of Usmer Ventures, makers of USMER bottled water. After that, Dr. Ita Udosen, APC South-South Zonal Secretary set the tone for the evening, noting that the stakeholders had always wanted to meet with the SSG, who is a grandson of the LGA, to formally congratulate him on his election as the political leader of Uyo federal constituency and express their gratitude to him for his leadership and support.
Dr. Udosen also publicly appreciated the SSG for playing an important role in his reelection for second term as Zonal Secretary and used the occasion to thank Gov. Umo Eno who facilitated his reelection.
Council chairman Edidiong Inyang spoke along the same theme, paying tribute to Prince Enobong Uwah whom he described as as his political father. ‘’I want to publicly announce to the people of Ibesikpo-Asutan LGA that without the SSG, I wouldn’t be your Council anybody today. He is my political godfather who picked me from the street and groomed me to what I am today. I will forever be grateful to him”. The Chairman, however, acknowledged and paid tribute to the governor for his election as Council Chairman.
He also commended the SSG for standing by the LGA in every situation. Others who spoke were the Commissioner for Budget and Planning, Nsikan Linus Nkan; APC Chapter Chairman; Chief E. E. Akpaudo; House of Assembly member Hon. Ubong Attah and former LGA chairman, Mrs Akon Ibanga. Former Head of Service, Elder Effiong Essien gave the vote of thanks. They all stressed that Prince Enobong Uwah is man of integrity and loyalty.

Responding, the SSG thanked the stakeholders for the visit, especially for formally congratulating him on his emergence as the Political Leader of Uyo federal Constituency, and noted that Ibesikpo-Asutan is the first LGA to formally visit him since his election as the Political Leader.
‘’When I was informed that I was going to be the Political Leader, I called all the key politicians and elected officials in the federal constituency and sought their opinion. They were all unanimous in supporting me; but for now, I am gratified to note that Ibesikpo-Asutan is the first Local government to visit me and formally congratulate me as the Political Leader. I am grateful’’. His speech was punctuated with many applauses.
The SSG said although he’s from Uyo LGA, he actually grew up in his mother’s village, Obot Idim, in Ibesikpo-Asutan LGA. He recalled with fondness how he spent his holidays as a young boy with his grandfather, Elder William Edet Amamkpa in Obot Idim, regaling his guests with stories of how he used to run errands for the old man; and this included going to the sub-treasury to pick up his monthly pensions. He asked the people to continue to support the governor, noting that the government will soon announce Board appointments and empowerment programmes.
On the forthcoming campaigns, he advised the stakeholders to be prepared to work hard for the elections. He enthused: ‘’Do not be deceived, President Tinubu would be reelected; and of course, you know that the Senate President and our governor will have an easy election. But we are also interested in the numbers. We want Akwa Ibom people to turn up in large numbers and vote massively for APC, and that is why we are approaching the campaigns with a new mindset’’.
Prince Uwah noted that of the 10 federal constituencies in the state, Uyo federal constituency produces the largest number of votes in every election, and urged Ibesikpo-Asutan people to stay united so that they could enjoy the benefits of their support to the governor. ‘’As leaders, I want to encourage you to rally your people together, stay united and speak with one voice so that the benefits that come with your kind of support would not be diverted. That is why Uyo seems to be getting ahead. It’s because Uyo is one. Ibesipo-Asutan should also stick together’’, he said.
Other members of the delegation were: Hon. Effiong Edet Effiong; Elder Ubong Obot; Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Obot; Dr. Emayak Ukpong and Mr. Etim Etim.
