The Council for Legal Education has certified new programmes for thew Faculty of Law at Akwa Ibom State University.

The certification was announced at the Third Quarter Hybrid meeting of the Council held on Thursday, August 13, 2026.

In a statement by the Secretary of the Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke Osho, Akwa Ibom State University was listed as one of 122 universities certified to admit students for the Bachelor of Law Programme (LL.B).

The Law Education Authority’s release highlights that graduates of the university’s law programme will, upon completion, be eligible for admission into the Nigerian Law School.

In a recent chat with the media, the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Professor Otoabasi Akpan, hinted that the institution has expanded its faculties from 8 to 17, and the Faculty of Law was one of the new faculties established by his administration.

The development signals a significant milestone in the institution’s resolve to expand and sustain its programmes and also provide access to top-notch courses for Akwa Ibomites and beyond, in line with the Arise Agenda of Governor Umo Eno’s administration.
