Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, former Governors Udom Emmanuel and Obong Victor Attah were among eminent Nigerians who gathered at Primary School, Ishiet Erong, Etinan LGA, for the funeral of Late Deaconess Jenny O. A. Ufot, mother of renowned media and advertising professional, Mr. Udeme Ufot.

Governor Eno described the late Deaconess, who died at 96, as a woman of exceptional compassion, purpose, and love for God and humanity.

Condoling with the son, Group Managing Director of SO&U Limited, Mr. Udeme Ufot, and the family, the Governor said: “Mama lived a life that was rich in purpose and committed to the work of God.”

He noted that her commitment to family, devotion to the Christian faith, and compassion for others earned her the respect and admiration of all who knew her.


Quoting Psalm 116:15, “Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of a saint,” Governor Eno said that though her passing leaves an irreplaceable void, her 96 years on earth give abundant reasons to thank God and celebrate a life richly blessed and beautifully lived.

He prayed for God’s strength for the family, adding: “She has departed this world, but she raised remarkable children who are adding value and rendering impactful services across professional spheres.”

As a memorial to the deceased, Governor Eno directed the Commissioner for Works, Prof. Eno Ibanga, and the Managing Director of Hensek Group, Engr. Uwem Okoko, to facilitate the completion of the Afaha Akpan Ekpo Road in Etinan before the end of the year.

Earlier, former Governor Deacon Udom Emmanuel also condoled with the family and urged contemporary parents to emulate the wisdom and discipline of parents of the older generation like Late Deaconess Ufot.

Mr. Emmanuel, who was accompanied by his wife, Mrs. Martha Udom Emmanuel, said parents of that era raised quality, productive, and proud children for the good of society.

In a sermon titled “Appointment for Service,” the General Superintendent and Chairman of Conference, Qua Iboe Church, Rev. Ekpedeme Effanga, said God is gathering and preparing people on earth to fill the service gap in eternity.


Anchoring his message on 1 Timothy 1:12, Rev. Effanga charged Christians to live lives worthy of trust to be counted by God for service in eternity, stressing that what endears one to God is sincere and selfless service to Him and humanity.

Also in attendance were the Deputy Governor, Senator Akon Eyakenyi; Deputy Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Kufre Edidem; Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah; Atedo Peterside; Atuekong Don Etiebet; Senators Udo Udoma and Effiong Bob; captains of industry; and other eminent Nigerians from within and outside the State.
