The Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunji Disu, on Monday, July 27, 2026, approved the posting of 10 Assistant Inspectors General of Police across eight states of the federation, and the Federal Capital Territory, FCT.
The development comes after IGP Disu recently decorated 13 new AIGs at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, charging them to uphold professionalism across their various formations.
The directive seen by Weekly SituationREPORT was conveyed through a police wireless signal issued by the Force Secretariat, Abuja, on Monday, July 27, 2026.
The message was referenced TH.5361/FS/FHQ/ABJ/SUB.7/X Posting Senior Officers.
Under the new postings, AIG Nwoniyi Polycarp Emeka will take charge of Zone 9, Umuahia, while AIG Obono Mmaghe Itam will serve as Commandant, Staff College, Jos.
At Zone 15, Makurdi, AIG Bassey Emmanuel Ewah will head the formation, as AIG Osagie John Agans-Irabor takes charge of Zone 3, Yola.
AIG Monday Agbonika will oversee Zone 5, Benin, while AIG Iyamah Daniel Edobor will assume responsibility as AIG, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
Similarly, AIG Isah Danladi Nda will take charge of the FCID Annex, Kaduna, while AIG Akaniyene Ifebem Ezima will oversee the NPF-NCCC, Abuja.
At Zone 6, Calabar, AIG Bello Rashid Afegbua will assume command, while AIG Betty Enekpem Otimenyim will take charge of Zone 8, Lokoja.
Accordingly, the IGP has pledged not to tolerate abuse of positions or power, a position that could lead to further reshuffling of senior officers across the force.
“The IG has reiterated his commitment to reforming the Nigerian Police Force. Going forward, more shake-ups will be seen. Officers will no longer be comfortable in positions. This will encourage administrative growth and positive policing across the Nigerian Police Force at all levels,” a source said.
The source further said more changes could be expected as the IGP continues his efforts to reform the force across all sectors.
The directive was addressed to all major police departments, zonal commands, state commands, specialised formations and training institutions across the country for immediate implementation.
