The House of Representatives on Thursday approved the Executive Bill proposing the establishment of state police, advancing efforts to decentralise Nigeria’s policing structure.

The legislation was passed during plenary after lawmakers stepped down an earlier constitutional amendment bill on state police and adopted the Executive Bill in its place.

The development comes shortly after the Senate endorsed its version of the proposed legislation, bringing Nigeria a step closer to introducing a dual policing framework intended to strengthen internal security and improve law enforcement across the states.
