Former Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Onofiok Luke, will chair the maiden Leadership Summit of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, Akwa Ibom State Council, scheduled for Thursday, July 30, 2026.

The summit, organised for members of the State Working Committee and Chapel Officers, will be held at the Patience Umo Eno Auditorium, NUJ Press Centre, Uyo, by 11 a.m.



The event is themed: “Journalism and Leadership: Balancing Editorial Independence with Government Policies.”

The Honourable Commissioner for Information, Akwa Ibom State, Aniekan Umanah, PhD, is expected to deliver the keynote address at the summit.

The summit is expected to provide a platform for media leaders to examine the relationship between journalism, leadership and government policies, with particular emphasis on the need to preserve editorial independence while engaging with government and public institutions.

It is also expected to strengthen leadership capacity among officers of the Union, promote professional standards and encourage responsible journalism in the interest of society.

The maiden summit is being organised under the leadership of the NUJ Akwa Ibom State Council Chairman, Comrade Nsibiet John.
