The Federal Government has renamed the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu Coastal Highway, citing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s role in driving the vision behind the project.

Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, announced the decision on Thursday, July 16, 2026, saying the name change followed consultations with officials of the Ministry of Works and was aimed at recognizing the President’s long-standing commitment to the coastal road initiative.

Umahi said the idea behind the highway predates Tinubu’s presidency, adding that the renaming was to acknowledge his role in advancing the project.

The 750-kilometre coastal highway, which links Lagos to Cross River State through Nigeria’s coastal belt, is one of the Federal Government’s flagship infrastructure projects under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The project, which commenced in 2024, is expected to boost connectivity, trade and economic activities across coastal communities while strengthening Nigeria’s transport infrastructure.
