The management of CBS Radio Network has paid a courtesy visit to Dr Udeme Nnanna, lecturer, founder of the Uyo Book Club and former Chief Press Secretary to ex-Governor Obong Victor Attah, as the station gears up for its formal unveiling next month.
During the visit, Dr Nnanna lauded the station’s initiators, describing the establishment of Akwa Ibom’s first online radio station as “innovative and timely.”
He noted that the platform bridges the gap between traditional radio audiences and social media users.
“Your feat is very innovative and timely,” Dr. Nnanna said.
“It helps bridge the gap between the radio-listening public and social media. In this generation, more people are closer to the internet, and this will make radio more accessible.”
He specifically commended the Managing Director, MD and Chief Executive Officer, CEO, Dr Charles Bassey, for driving the innovation, adding that the online model would expand access to professional broadcasting.
Dr Nnanna, a renowned media scholar, also praised CBS Radio Network for its commitment to grooming young broadcasters and promoting a reading culture among children through the media. He thanked the team for recognizing his contributions to the media industry over the years.
Earlier, Dr Bassey has explained that he was motivated to establish the station to revive radio listening culture while delivering credible information to the public.
He expressed concern over the spread of misinformation online.
“The cyberspace has been taken over by non-media professionals,” Dr Bassey said.
“It is saturated with misinformation and fake news, which has taken a toll on society. Putting out wholesome news through professional radio broadcasting will go a long way in serving the people positively and sanitizing the cyberspace.”
He disclosed that CBS Radio Network commenced full operations on May 29, 2026. The station will be formally unveiled at an elaborate inauguration ceremony slated for July 3, 2026. The event will feature a public lecture, investiture of Awards of Excellence, and recognition of distinguished personalities who have made their mark in various fields.

The MD and CEO was accompanied on the visit by Envoy Idorenyin Umoren, a director of the station and a retired management staff and Production Manager at Akwa Ibom Newspaper Corporation, publishers of Pioneer titles; Mr Sylvester Udoh, a retired staff of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria, FRCN, Atlantic FM, Uyo; and Miss Emmanuella Charles, a member of the Akwa Ibom Kids Press Club.
