The Coordinator of the Office of the First Lady of Akwa Ibom State, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, has been presented with the “Distinguished Mother of Compassion Award” by nurses in the Government House Uyo Clinic, in recognition of her extensive humanitarian service and sustained support for healthcare initiatives among vulnerable populations throughout the state.
The award was presented during a visit by the nurses, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at the Conference Room of the Office of the First Lady in Uyo.
Receiving the delegation, Lady Obareki expressed her deep appreciation for the honour, a gesture that she described as highly meaningful and a reinforcement of her dedication to collaborative service delivery in the health sector.
She praised the medical team for the essential frontline role that nurses play in healthcare delivery, identifying their contributions as central to the success of state health interventions, emphasising that a continuous partnership between her office and healthcare professionals remains vital to alleviating suffering and expanding medical access for underserved communities.
Lady Obareki assured the delegation that her doors remain open for swift communication, teamwork, and consultation to effectively address emerging public health challenges, noting that working alongside the nursing staff is a default setting for her office.
Lady Obareki also disclosed that the door to her office remains open to healthcare workers for consultation and collaboration, stressing the need for swift communication and teamwork in addressing public health challenges.
She thanked the Government House Clinic team for the honour bestowed on her and reaffirmed her appreciation for their continuous service to the state.
The Nurse-in-Charge of the Government House Clinic, Agnes Umoren, who led the delegation on the visit, conveyed their
appreciation to the Coordinator’s commitment to healthcare development and social welfare initiatives.
Nurse Umoren highlighted the tangible impact of the various interventions championed under Lady Obareki’s leadership, specifically praising enhanced Programmes targeting maternal and child health support, the direct payment of hospital bills for less privileged individuals, and periodic health education campaigns for adolescents, including a recent outreach on Menstrual Hygiene in Ikot Ekpene.
She noted that initiatives undertaken by the Patience Umo Eno Golden Initiative for All, GIFA, have successfully strengthened public confidence in the state’s healthcare support systems while directly uplifting vulnerable women, children and families, extending the assurances of collaboration between the Office of the First Lady and Nurses working in the Government House Clinic, Uyo.
At the end of the visit, both parties pledged their commitment to strengthened partnerships in advancing healthcare delivery and humanitarian outreaches, across Akwa Ibom State.
