A former governor of Ogun State, Segun Osoba, has alleged that there is a political gang-up against President Bola Tinubu in the South ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

According to Mr Osoba, the alleged plot is aimed at fielding multiple presidential candidates from the southern region in order to divide votes and reduce President Tinubu’s chances at the polls.

The veteran journalist and politician made the remarks on Saturday in Abeokuta during the announcement of the results of the APC presidential primaries.

Speaking shortly before the results were announced, Mr Osoba urged members of the All Progressives Congress to prepare for what he described as the “real election” coming next January.

He also cautioned party members against the belief that President Tinubu has no formidable challengers, describing such assumptions as misleading.

“The enemies are many,” he said while addressing party stakeholders.

“I want to appeal to all of us ahead of the coming election: let us not be caught off guard. Many people are saying we have no opponents, but that is a misleading narrative. The enemies are many,” he said.

“As we approach the next election, there is a strong gang-up against us. They are plotting to field several candidates from our region in the South. Peter Obi has emerged, Goodluck Jonathan is quietly waiting in the background, and Seyi Makinde has been grandstanding. All these appear to be attempts to divide votes from the South.”

Mr Osoba appealed to APC supporters to mobilise massively for the election, stressing that the party must not take victory for granted.

He also commended President Tinubu for what he described as developmental projects executed in Ogun State under the current administration.

“Under our governor, President Tinubu has been good to us in Ogun State through a series of developmental projects. I hope you will all repay the President’s gesture with your support,” he added.
