The Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, PFN, has announced a three-day nationwide fasting and prayer programme over worsening insecurity, bloodshed, economic hardship and rising concerns about Nigeria’s political future ahead of the 2027 elections.
The Christian body said the programme, scheduled for May 22 to May 24, 2026, is aimed at seeking divine intervention for peace, healing, national stability, economic recovery and credible elections amid growing fears over violence and uncertainty across the country.
This was contained in a statement issued by the PFN National President, Bishop Francis Wale Oke, and made available to NewsDesk Daily.
According to the statement, the council reached the resolution after what it described as extensive prayerful deliberations on the state of the nation and the role of the Church at a critical time.
“In view of the current state of the nation marked by increasing insecurity, violence and killings all over the nation, war by insurgents against the Church and economy hardship, the leadership of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) has declared a three-day National Fasting and Prayer, from Friday May 22nd to Sunday, May 24th, 2026, with the theme: The Consuming Fire,” the National President stated.
The PFN expressed concern over persistent violence, attacks on communities and places of worship, as well as the deepening economic hardship affecting millions of Nigerians.
The PFN said Friday, May 22, and Saturday, May 23, would be observed through fasting and prayers in homes, churches and local assemblies across the country.
On Sunday, May 24, which marks Global Pentecost Day, Christians are expected to gather at designated venues across states for a united national prayer assembly to conclude the programme.
According to the PFN, prayers during the period would focus on “divine intervention for Nigeria,” restoration of peace and security, an end to bloodshed, terrorism and criminality, economic relief for citizens, wisdom and unity among leaders, peaceful and credible elections, and the emergence of God-fearing and patriotic leaders.
The Fellowship added that Nigeria remained a nation of immense possibilities and urged citizens, especially Christians, to stand together, while appealing to pastors and Christian leaders to mobilise their congregations and networks for full participation.
