Defence ministers and senior military officials from countries of the Lake Chad Basin have convened in N’Djamena, Republic of Chad, to review ongoing counterterrorism operations and strengthen regional strategies against insurgent networks and cross-border threats.
Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, General Christopher Gwabin Musa (retd.), reaffirmed the country’s commitment to collective security efforts, stressing the need for sustained collaboration among member states to degrade terrorist groups and stabilise the region.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Defence, Musa made the remarks during a high-level meeting of Ministers of Defence of Troop Contributing Countries under the Multinational Joint Task Force framework of the Lake Chad Basin Commission.
The meeting brought together defence ministers and representatives from Nigeria, Chad, Cameroon and Benin, alongside senior military leadership, intelligence chiefs and other stakeholders involved in regional security operations.
Deliberations at the meeting focused on assessing the operational effectiveness of the Multinational Joint Task Force, as well as addressing emerging security dynamics within the Lake Chad Basin.
The ministers also considered reports presented by Chiefs of Defence Staff and heads of intelligence and security agencies, with discussions covering critical issues such as force deployment, funding challenges and the evolving threat environment.
Musa commended the Government of Chad for hosting the meeting and acknowledged its leadership role within the regional security framework.
Participants at the meeting also expressed appreciation to the President of Chad and Chairman of the Lake Chad Basin Commission Summit for his continued support in advancing peace and security efforts across the region.
The meeting is expected to further enhance coordination among member states and reinforce joint efforts to tackle terrorism and other transnational security threats in the Lake Chad Basin.
