The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has received the newly gazetted Nigeria Police Force, NPF, Regulations, assuring their swift and comprehensive implementation across the country.
The regulations were formally presented on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, in Abuja by the Minister of Police Affairs, Ibrahim Gaidam, during a handover ceremony held at the Federal Ministry of Police Affairs.
Speaking at the event, the Head of the Police Reform Secretariat, Olu Ogunsakin, said the gazettement marks a critical step in aligning the provisions of the Police Act 2020 with current policing realities. He noted that the development effectively transitions ongoing police reforms from policy formulation to practical implementation.
In his keynote address, Gaidam reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to deepening police reforms, stressing that the effective enforcement of the new regulations remains central to national security priorities.
In his response, IGP Disu described the development as a major milestone for the Nigeria Police Force, noting that the regulations, enacted pursuant to Section 138 of the Police Act, 2020, provide a clear framework for professional, accountable, and rights-based policing.
He commended the minister’s leadership and acknowledged the support of the United Nations Development Programme and the Police Reform Secretariat in advancing the reform agenda.
The police chief assured that the new regulations would be immediately implemented through force-wide dissemination, integration into training and operational structures, and strict enforcement across all commands and formations. He added that accountability would remain a central focus of the reforms.
The ceremony was attended by representatives of key institutions, including the Police Service Commission, National Human Rights Commission, Nigeria Police Trust Fund, Federal Ministry of Justice, the United Nations Development Programme, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.
The Nigeria Police Force reiterated its commitment to fully implementing the regulations as part of efforts to enhance professionalism, strengthen accountability, and build public trust.
