Operatives of the Akwa Ibom State Police Command have arrested a man for unlawful possession of firearms, threat to live and possession of illicit substances.
This was made known by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Timfon John in a press release on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, in Uyo.
According to DSP John, “The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has arrested one Blessing Ime Abel (Male), aged 38 years, of Ikot Akpa Ntuen Village, Ukanafun Local Government Area, for alleged unlawful possession of a firearm, threat to life, and possession of suspected illicit substances.
“The arrest followed a report by one Emekpo (Male) who reported a case of threatening violence.
“Acting on the report, operatives of the Command swiftly mobilized and apprehended the suspect. During a search, the suspect was found in possession of one locally made pistol, one live cartridge, and substances suspected to be illicit drugs.
“The suspect is currently in police custody, while investigation is ongoing to ascertain the source of the firearm and the full extent of the suspect’s activities. Upon conclusion of investigation, the suspect will be charged to court accordingly.
“The Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, CP Baba Mohammed Azare fsi, reiterates the Command’s zero tolerance for crimes involving firearms and threats to public safety, and assures residents of the Command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property across the State.
“Members of the public are encouraged to continue to support the Police with timely and credible information that will aid crime prevention and detection,” the press release concluded.
