Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Saturday defeated Egypt’s Pharaohs via a penalty shootout to secure third place at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

After a tightly contested encounter that ended level at full time, the bronze medal match was decided from the spot, where Nigeria showed greater composure to prevail over their North African rivals.

The result ensured the Super Eagles finished the tournament on a positive note after narrowly missing out on a place in the final.

Nigeria had earlier been eliminated in the semi-finals but responded with resilience and focus against an experienced Egyptian side, who are the most successful nation in AFCON history.
