The Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, has been praised for his planned massive reinvestment in the Ibom Multi -Specialty Hospital, IMSH, aimed at repositioning the hospital towards achieving the goals for which it was established.
This was disclosed by the Chief Medical Director – (CMD) of the hospital, Dr. Ini Etukudo, during the hospital’s 10th anniversary/Get-together and awards night organised by the management to reward hard work, diligence and dedication to service by deserving staff and Special Service Awards to distinguished personalities who have contributed to the success of the hospital.

The event which was well attended by staff, management staff and other distinguished guests featured musical presentation by different units of the hospital, where Christmas Carol songs were rendered to thrill the audience, ultimately showing the strength in unity and togetherness of members of staff of the hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Ini Etukudo, commended the huge success of the event, noting that the organising committee had exceeded his expectations through their efforts, commitment and effective planning. He thanked everyone for their show of strength and solidarity, observing that IMSH has come thus far as a result of the commitment of members of staff, describing them as his ‘foot soldiers’.
Dr. Etukudo said; “Today we are here to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital that was built and commissioned ten years ago. Let me say here that five years out of the ten years of IMSH existence has been successfully administered by the current administration, and that means we sit here as the longest and most stable administration in Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital since inception. This credit goes to every of our staff for their commitment and dedication.
“On the part of the management, we have also taken the welfare of our workers as a major priority, ensuring prompt payment of their salaries and other benefits. From February 2021, we have ensured consistent payment of salaries and other benefits without default. Even the December Salary have been paid before the 25th to ensure every staff enjoy the season. It’s the determination of the management to continue to take the welfare of the staff very seriously, as they are the drivers of the vision of the institution.

“Let me use this opportunity to thank our dear Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, PhD, for the enormous investment in the health sector and his interest in Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital in particular. His Excellency, the governor had put together a committee to look into the rejuvenation of the hospital. This will see to the re-equipping and infrastructure renaissance of Ibom Multi-Specialty Hospital.

“The governor has charged us to continue in quality service delivery, promising that he will reinvest in critical areas that will position the hospital to compete with any global standard hospital anywhere in the country”. To buttress this fact, Dr. Etukudo informed the staff that a brand new 128 slice CT scan procured by the state government for the hospital is already on the way and the location for its installation is fully ready.

Speaking shortly after receiving his Excellence in Leadership of the Health Sector of Akwa Ibom State Award, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem Emmanuel John, who was represented by the Executive Secretary/Permanent Secretary, Health Insurance Agency, Dr. Igbemi Arthur Igbemi, said, the management of IMSH has done exceedingly well especially in the area of effective hospital management and prompt response to medical exigencies. He lauded the leadership of Dr. Etukudo and commended his overall leadership qualities, noting that Dr. Etukudo is a square peg in a square hole. He attributed Dr. Etukudo’s success to his wealth of experience in the medical field.
The health Commissioner assured that in line with the governor’s Arise Agenda, Pastor Eno is more than determined in making sure that IMSH and other health facilities in the state operate optimally to the benefit of the people of the state.
The high point of the event was the cutting of the anniversary cake and presentation of awards/cash prizes to deserving members of staff and Special Service Awards to distinguished personalities who have contributed to the growth of the hospital.



Some of the awardees on the occasion who were actually voted by staff members were: Best in Critical Thinker/Exemplary Leadership Award, Dr. Ini Jackson Etukudo; Clinical Advocacy Award, Dr. Sunday Micha Udoh; Best in Patient Staff Interpersonal Relationship, Dr. Mrs. Emaimo Essien; Best in Team Spirit, Dr. Ekemini Akpanobong; Best in Innovative Thinking, Mrs. Margaret James; and Best in Business Development, Mrs. Ekaette Essiet, amongst others.
