The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has today accused President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of being behind what it describes as orchestrated trouble within the ADC. Speaking at a press conference, ADC National Publicity Secretary Bolaji Abdullahi said the mischief is driven by the APC’s fear of the growing influence and popularity of ADC in the lead up to the 2027 elections.

Abdullahi alleged that the APC, having observed a rising support base for ADC across several states, has resorted to intimidation tactics, disruptive behaviour and efforts to smear the party’s internal processes. He emphasized that what is happening is not merely internal dissent in ADC, but a deliberate campaign of destabilization orchestrated from outside, by those who feel threatened by ADC’s momentum.

He pointed to recent incidents where ADC meetings, endorsements, or gatherings have been disrupted sometimes in church premises or public spaces blaming APC operatives or sympathisers for creating confusion and using state apparatus such as the police to harass ADC members. According to Abdullahi, not even sacred institutions like churches are being respected in these disruptions which he called a “new low” in political behaviour.

Bolaji Abdullahi also described what he sees as APC’s strategies to manufacture bad headlines or controversies, as part of a wider public relations campaign by Tinubu’s administration to distract Nigerians from mounting challenges like inflation, insecurity and economic hardship. He said the ruling party is so desperate for positive media coverage that it does not hesitate to exaggerate or even propagate false or misleading information to regain favourable public perception.

Highlighting the uniqueness of ADC, Abdullahi stressed that the party is strongly committed to youth inclusion in politics. He revealed that the Deputy National Secretary of ADC is below 36 years, and many members of the National Working Committee are in their 30s. These young leaders are not just figureheads, he explained but active participants in the decision making process of NWC meetings. According to him, this is deliberate because the leadership of the party is determined to groom the next generation of political leaders who will shape Nigeria’s future with energy, innovation and integrity.

In conclusion, Abdullahi noted that ADC is also finalizing a membership card system for all its members across the 36 states, to strengthen internal organization and accountability. The card will carry the official signatures of Senator David Mark, National Chairman of ADC and Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola thereby reinforcing credibility and trust in the party’s structure. He demanded that the APC cease what he termed “desperation politics,” stop interfering in ADC’s internal affairs and allow the party to operate freely. Abdullahi reaffirmed that ADC remains committed to its course, confident that the Nigerian people will see through what he described as grandstanding and choose substance over spectacle at the ballot box.
