The Akwa Ibom Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has directed that the names of all political appointees in his administration be published according to their local government areas, saying communities must begin to hold their representatives accountable for service delivery.

Governor Eno announced the directive during a Town Square Meeting with the people of Ikono and Ini Federal Constituency at Ibiaku Ntok Okpo, where he also elevated his Personal Assistant on Protocol, Blessed Essien, to Special Assistant on Public Works for donating a borehole to his community.

The governor said many political aides had misrepresented their roles and earnings, creating the impression that they lacked the capacity to contribute meaningfully to their constituencies. He dismissed such claims as misleading.

“Hear me well, no PA earns less than a million naira. And when they want to talk, they will say it is a stipend. You call one million naira, stipend. It is not a stipend to me. It is serious money,” Eno declared.
He criticised aides who he said had failed to impact their communities, contrasting them with Essien.

“As I arrived here, they gave me one brochure by a PA who, out of the token he gets, has gone to his community to do a borehole and has replicated it around the village. One man has done this, but some of them with political appointments are still lying to their people that the governor has done nothing,” he said.

The governor explained that publishing the list of appointees would empower citizens to directly demand results from their representatives.
“So I’ve asked the Secretary of the Government to compile names of all political appointees according to their local government areas, we are going to publish it in the newspaper,” Eno announced.

He then challenged constituents to take advantage of the planned publication. “Call your PAs, call your SAs, SSAs, call your Commissioner, ask them, what have you done?” he urged.
