The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Akwa Ibom Command said it has begun a regular Special Patrol Operation across the state in a bid to arrest and prosecute road traffic offenders.
The Sector Commander, Francis Ajatta, who disclosed this in a statement issued by the command’s Public Enlightenment Officer, Paul James in Uyo on Monday, August 4, said the sole aim of the exercise is to ensure the safety of road users and to deter intending road offenders against engaging in traffic offences.
He listed the offences to include: Driving Against Traffic (One-Way Drive) Overloading, driving without Wiper or Broken Wind Shield (especially during this raining season) and operating a vehicle without Valid Documents.
“The Command has embarked on regular Special Patrol Operation with the sole aim of arresting and prosecuting such offenders in the court of law,” he said.
He also warned motorists against violation of critical road traffic rules that could put the lives of other road users in danger.
While advising motorists to remain law abiding and avoid doing anything that could jeopardize their safety and that of other road users, he urged them to leverage on the FRSC Mobile Application or the Toll-free Line –122 to promptly report any road crash and other emergencies.
