…as Information Commissioner Hails Governor as a “Promise Keeper”

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Information, Rt. Hon. Aniekan Umanah, has lauded Governor Umo Eno for his unwavering commitment to promises made, following the completion of the long-abandoned 1,500-capacity Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Auditorium, situated within the State NUJ Secretariat at Information Drive, off IBB Way, Uyo.
Speaking during an inspection tour of the facility on Thursday, Commissioner Umanah, visibly impressed by the quality and progress of work, recalled that Governor Umo Eno had pledged support for the completion of the NUJ Auditorium during a thanksgiving service of the Union held earlier this year in Nsit-Ubium. According to him, that pledge has now been fulfilled.

“Mine is to join you in thanking His Excellency and expressing our deep appreciation as a Ministry and as a Union to His Excellency, the performing Governor of Akwa Ibom State. Some refer to him as the ‘Talk and Do’ Governor, Pastor Umo Eno for making good his promise of completing this auditorium in record time. We came here to see that what is remaining is just the cleaning up and putting the chairs, so the Union can take possession and put it to use,” the Commissioner stated.
Congratulating the Amos Etuk led Exco of the NUJ on this milestone, Elder Umanah, who was accompanied by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Akparawa James Edet, and the Director of Information, Mr. Aniekan Ukpong, urged the Union to ensure proper maintenance of the facility to preserve its value and usefulness.

He also commended the Contractor, Messrs Fort Apex Nig. Ltd., for executing a quality job within the stipulated timeframe.
Conducting the Commissioner and his team around the 20 year-old abandoned facility now wearing a new look, the Chairman of the State Council of the NUJ, Comrade Amos Etuk, accompanied by members of the State Working Committee, expressed profound appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for being not only media-friendly but also for his sustained support for the media community in the state.

“We are very excited as a Union. Just as the Governor had assured that this project will be commissioned before the expiration of my tenure, he has kept to his words,” Comrade Etuk affirmed.
He also extended gratitude to the Commissioner for Information and the Permanent Secretary for their continuous support to the Union and reaffirmed the Union’s commitment to positively projecting the image of the State.
The contracting firm, Messrs Forte Apex Ltd while leading the inspection team through the auditorium and its various components, provided a technical overview of the facility.
The NUJ Auditorium was initiated under the Comrade Israel Umoh led administration.
