Former Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole disrupted operations at Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 1 in Lagos on Wednesday, June 11, after missing his scheduled flight to Abuja.
Report says Senator Oshiomhole arrived at the terminal around 6:10 a.m. for Air Peace Flight P47120, which was set to depart by 6:30 a.m.
By the time he got to the gate, boarding had already closed, in line with the airline’s strict departure policy.
Upon being told he had missed the flight, Oshiomhole reportedly became aggressive.
He allegedly assaulted Air Peace staff and went on to lock the terminal gate, preventing other passengers from entering.
His actions disrupted the flow of airport operations and delayed several other flights.
To reduce the impact of the incident, Air Peace quickly moved affected passengers to another terminal so they could continue with their travel plans.
Sources said the terminal manager’s repeated efforts to resolve the disruption were met with obstinate refusal by Oshiomhole, forcing the regional manager to intervene.
A management meeting was hurriedly convened to pacify the senator and convince him to allow normal operations to resume.
Witnesses described the scene as chaotic and humiliating for airline and airport staff, who were seen pleading with the senator to de-escalate the situation.
The airline later described Senator Oshiomhole’s behaviour as disruptive and harmful to both staff and passengers.
Air Peace reminded the public that aviation runs on strict schedules and safety rules, and no one, regardless of status, is above those standards.
The airline also called on all travelers to remain calm and respectful while dealing with airport staff.
