Gov Umo Eno, 23 Akwa Ibom Lawmakers Set To Dump PDP For APC

Friday May 23, 2025|

The much anticipated defection of the Akwa Ibom state governor, Pastor Umo Eno from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, is becoming a reality.

The defection will equally shake up the state House of Assembly as no fewer than 23 lawmakers are reportedly set to jump the ship to APC in June.

It was gathered that the governor has directed all commissioners and political appointees to either defect to APC with him or resign from their positions.

However, despite the governor’s consultation with stakeholders, one of the appointees is said to be defiant of joining Governor Eno in APC and he is set to tender his resignation.

He unequivocally stressed that he will not negotiate with any appointee except for elected officials like the House of Assembly Members and local government chairmen.

Governor Eno claimed he would still control the PDP structure in Akwa Ibom state even after defecting to APC, warning those who think they can use the party to fight him are mistaken.

The governor, who made his decision known during the State Executive Council meeting in Uyo, expressed his admiration for President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s leadership style.
