The top 10 Most Valuable Performers of the MTN CHAMPS Grand Final were unveiled on the final day of the four-day event at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, marking one of the highlights of the closing ceremony.

Several dignitaries attended the colourful closing ceremony, including the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Mallam Shehu Dikko, and MTN executives, as the 10 outstanding athletes were honoured for their exceptional performances throughout the competition.

The Grand Final concluded with the 200m, 800m and High Jump finals across the four age categories.

Faith Odumoso dominated the Senior Women’s category by completing the sprint double, racing to victory in the 200m with a time of 24.17secs. Team MTN’s Miracle Donald finished second with a Personal Best of 24.45secs, while Jane Onyeneho took third place in 24.48secs.

In the men’s final, Bayelsa’s Akumodogiyo Shalom George claimed the title, with Victor Marcus Williams and Pelumi Emmanuel Adesunloro settling for second and third positions respectively.

Faith Chukwuma maintained her impressive form in the Junior Women’s category, dominating the 200m to secure her second medal of the competition, having earlier won bronze in the 100m. Team MTN’s Lucy Nwankwo and Team MVP’s Tejiri Ugoh followed in second and third positions.

Team MTN’s Ezekiel Asuquo demonstrated his versatility by capturing his second title of the competition. After winning the 400m, he returned to claim gold in the 200m with a swift 21.39secs, defeating Liberty Okon and Goodluck Johnbull.

The Youth Girls’ 200m final witnessed a commanding performance from Bernice Onoriode, who led a Team MVP sweep with a lifetime best of 25.52secs to secure her sprint double. Goodnews Saturday earned her second consecutive silver in a Personal Best of 25.56secs, while Rebecca Enilolobo clocked 25.87secs for bronze.

Peter Onoriode was the standout performer in the Youth Boys’ race, clocking a Personal Best of 22.74secs for the win. Team MVP’s Destiny Reuben and Seriki Kehinde Opemipo claimed silver and bronze respectively.

Just as she did in the 100m, Ebimoboere Christopher led a Team MVP clean sweep in the Cadet Girls’ 200m final. She raced to gold in a new Personal Best of 26.52secs, followed by teammates Abigael Ogunbowale and Nneoma Okonkwo.

Abdulaleem Abdulsalam continued his remarkable run in the Cadet Boys’ 200m, blazing to victory in 24.96secs. His teammate David Ekunwe earned silver, while Aunty Iso’s Kingsley Prosper rounded out the podium with bronze.

Akwa Ibom secured first and third positions in the men’s 800m final through Inimfon Akaso (2:04.76secs, PB) and Edidiong Udotong (2:06.46secs, PB), while Solomon Josiah of Real Overcomers took silver with 2:04.94secs (PB).

Saviour Alexander dominated the Junior men’s class in 2:04.31secs (PB) as Samson Tebowei of Sam-Kay (2:05.02secs) and John Kingsley finished second and third respectively.

Team MVP’s Elizabeth Olumide (2:14.65secs, PB), Team MTN’s Patience Joseph (2:20.72secs, PB) and Esther Nwankwo (2:26.62secs, PB) were the top three finishers in the Junior women’s race.

Karo Onisuru (1.45m), Favour Owivri (1.45m) and Victoria Ita Fredy emerged tops in the Youth Girls’ High Jump event. Clergy Edet won the Senior women’s title in the event while Chukwuemeka Alozie took the men’s gold.

Team MVP dominated the Cadet Boys’ and Girls’ and Youth Boys’ and Girls’ 4x100m event while Team MTN did same in the Junior and Senior categories respectively.
