In commemoration of the 2025 World Malaria Day, Akwa Ibom State-owned Airline, Ibom Air, has presented about fifty thousand doses of anti-malaria medications to the Akwa Ibom State Ministry of Health under the State Malaria Elimination Programme.

The donation was part of the Corporate Social Responsibility, CRS, of the Airlines under the Fight Against Malaria in Pregnant Women and Children Today, FAM-Pact initiative focused on reducing malaria-related morbidity and mortality among pregnant women and children under five through prevention, treatment, and advocacy.

Presenting the donation to the State Ministry of Health, Ibom Air’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mfon Udom, who was accompanied by members of the airline’s management team, said since Malaria remains one of Nigeria’s leading causes of death, especially among pregnant women and children under five, the medications will go a long way in reducing maternal and infant mortality occasioned by malaria infections.

Mr Udom said this year’s World Malaria Day theme, “Malaria Ends With Us: Reinvest. Reimagine, Reignite,” resonates strongly with the FAM-pact mission to drive community engagement and amplify conversations around innovative malaria prevention strategies.

Speaking on the significance of the FAM-pact Initiative, Group Manager, Corporate Services at Ibom Air, Mrs. Imelda Aba, noted that Ibom Air’s Corporate Social Responsibility platform is focused on health, education, and community development.

“Ibom Air’s CSR platform is anchored on health, education, and community development. FAM-pact has become a rallying point for efforts to protect our most vulnerable populations. By partnering with SMEP and others this year, we are scaling our impact and reinforcing the message that malaria is preventable—and must be eliminated.”

“Launched in 2024, FAM-pact has since provided insecticide-treated nets, malaria medications, and educational materials to communities in partnership with the Ministry of Health. The initiative continues to grow in scope and relevance.”

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ekem John, who received the malaria medications on behalf of the Ministry, assured the Airlines that the items would be distributed judiciously to target beneficiaries in the state.
