The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has been commended by stakeholders and residents for the relative peace, security and safety in Akwa Ibom.
They specifically noted how the police have continued to respond to distress calls even at odd hours, despite challenges, and called on both federal and state governments to improve their welfare.
These comments were made by Akwa Ibom people after the Town Hall Meeting organised by the police command as part of activities to celebrate the maiden National Police Day.
Residents especially heaped praises on the State Commissioner of Police, CP, Baba Abare, for his leadership style which is bring peace to the entire State.
President Bola Tinubu last year declared every April 7 as National Police Day to honour officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force for the enormous sacrifices they make towards ensuring internal security and safety.
To mark the first edition, the police planned week-long activities at various units and commands across the country including free health checks, environmental sanitation and engagements with members of the community on ways to better serve the people.
In Uyo, the Town Hall meeting held attracted representatives of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Police Eminent Persons Forum (PEPF), Community Development Committees (CDCs), religious leaders, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders.
The State Police Command led by CP Azare, on Friday, April 4, 2025, carried out a free medical outreach at the Itam Flyover and also extended its humanitarian service to Divine Children Home, Atan Offot, Uyo, where food items and essential goods were donated to the children.
And on Thursday, April 3, 2025, the Akwa Ibom Police Command, in partnership with the Akwa Ibom State Environmental Protection and Waste Management Agency (AKSEPWMA), took to the streets of Uyo in a sanitation and cleanup exercise as part of activities marking the maiden National Police Day celebration.
