National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members across Nigeria are set to receive a significantly increased monthly allowance of N77,000, commencing in March 2025.
This assurance was provided by the Director General of the NYSC, Brigadier General Olakunle Nafiu, during recent interactive sessions with corps members at the Wuse and Garki NYSC Zonal Offices in Abuja.
The announcement follows the Federal Government’s approval of a new national minimum wage of N70,000, as enacted by President Bola Tinubu in July 2024. The adjustment to the NYSC allowance is in line with the National Minimum Wage (Amendment) Act 2024, as confirmed by a letter from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, dated September 25, 2024, and signed by its Chairman, Mr. Ekpo Nta.
Brigadier General Nafiu emphasized the unwavering commitment of the NYSC and the Federal Government to the welfare of corps members. He urged them to maintain their dedication, focus, and discipline in their service to the nation, reassuring them that the increased allowance would be paid as promised.
“With effect from March, you are going to receive the sum of Seventy-Seven Thousand Naira as your monthly allowance. NYSC is good at record-keeping, and I can assure you that your money will be paid. The nation and the Scheme appreciate you,” he stated.
The Director General also praised the foundational vision of the NYSC, highlighting its critical role in fostering national unity by exposing graduate youths to diverse cultural experiences across Nigeria.
He affirmed that the NYSC management would continue to instill core values such as patriotism, discipline, leadership, and teamwork in each cohort of corps members.
Speaking on behalf of her fellow corps members at the Garki Zone, Zaka Deborah Alheri, FC/24A/5831, expressed profound gratitude to the Director General for his commitment to ensuring the timely implementation of the increased allowance.
The corps members welcomed the news with enthusiasm, acknowledging the positive impact the financial boost would have on their service year.
