Dr. Chris Nwanoro, Charge d’Affaires of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Sao Tome & Principe, has once again made history. , at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, as he was elected as the Vice Chairman of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), INDEPENDENT reports.
This is coming after winning the election as a member of the United Nations Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) on June 11, 2024, at the United Nations headquarters in New York.
On Wednesday, March 5, 2025, at the United Nations headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, Ambassador Nwanoro was elected as the Vice Chairman of the CRPD.
This remarkable achievement reaffirms Nigeria’s leadership on the global stage in championing disability rights and inclusive governance.
Nwanoro’s distinguished career exemplifies his dedication to Nigeria’s global representation and diplomatic service. As the current Charge d’Affaires of Nigeria to São Tomé and Príncipe, he has consistently demonstrated exceptional leadership and a deep commitment to fostering bilateral relations. His efforts have significantly advanced Nigeria’s strategic interests in the region, particularly in the areas of economic diplomacy and multilateral cooperation.
Ambassador Nwanoro who holds a Ph.D in International Relations from the University of Abuja is legally blind, yet this disability has never constrained his ability to excel in his roles. On the contrary, his achievements underscore his resilience, intellect, and determination. From serving as Minister II (Political) at the Nigeria High Commission in New Delhi to his impactful contributions at the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations, where he led the Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, Dr. Nwanoro has consistently exceeded expectations. His personal experiences further enrich his capacity to advocate for inclusion, equity, and diversity on behalf of Nigeria.
