The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has reaffirmed its commitment to enforce the state’s Anti-Open Grazing Law.
The State Commissioner of Police, Baba Mohammed Azare, made this known during a press briefing in Ikot Akpan Abia, Uyo.
The Commissioner advised those involved in such activities to desist for their own good, and seriously warned violators that it would not be business as usual, urging them to rather respect the law to avoid experiencing the consequences from disobedience.
He reminded that the state has a law on grazing, and that the Police would fully drive on its compliances to make sure the menace comes to an end.
CP Azare advised people in the State to avoid problem and respect the law as good citizens, while any individual arrested in connection with the development “would surely face the music without compromise”.
Speaking on farmers-herders conflict in the State, he said the Police would neither condone the destruction of farm land by herdsmen, nor tolerate attack on herders and their livestock.
“We have the information of encroachment on farms and the destruction of crops by herdsmen, and attack on cows by miscreants. The Police would not look over the issue in order not to let it generate lawlessness”, he said.
On communal clash, the Police Commissioner said the command would fish out those sponsoring such conflicts and hold them accountable for their activities, which, he said, “is not a welcomed development in this present dispensation when we are preaching about peace across the state”.
