The Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has unveiled plans to develop 10,000 housing units nationwide under the Renewed Hope Medic Cities initiative.
This project aims to address the housing challenges faced by medical professionals across the country.
In a statement released on Friday, Ahmed Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, highlighted the government’s commitment to improving the welfare of healthcare workers. The statement, signed by Salisu Haiba, Director of Press and Public Relations, emphasized the need for affordable and decent housing for medical personnel.
Speaking during a meeting with the leadership of the Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), Dangiwa commended healthcare workers for their dedication, particularly in challenging environments. He reiterated that ensuring their access to quality housing aligns with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu and the Ministry’s objectives.
“Housing is a fundamental need that directly impacts productivity, stability, and quality of life. We recognise the difficulties many healthcare workers face in securing suitable accommodation, particularly in high-demand urban centres where medical facilities are concentrated,” Dangiwa stated.
To address these challenges, the minister underscored the importance of collaboration between the government and professional associations. He revealed that 10,112 housing units are currently under construction in 14 locations across the country as part of the Renewed Hope Housing Agenda.
“These include 3,112 units in Karsana, Abuja; 2,000 units in Lagos; and 2,000 units in Kano. Additionally, 12 ongoing Renewed Hope Estates with 250 units each are being developed across 12 states, with plans to extend to the remaining 18 states,” he said.
Dangiwa also outlined various ownership plans for the housing units, including National Housing Funds (NHF) mortgage loans of up to 30 years, rent-to-own options, installment payments, and outright purchase.
He noted that an online portal (http://renewedhopehomes.fmhud.gov.ng) has been set up for easy application.
