Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) has swept the local government elections in Abia State, winning 15 of the 17 chairmanship posts, leaving the ruling Labour Party (LP) without a seat.
The Young Progressive Party (YPP) recorded a victory in the two remaining local government areas of the South-East state.
The chairman of the Abia State Independent Electoral Commission George Chima announced the results at the agency’s headquarters in Umuahia, the state capital.
“We have fulfilled the duty we were inaugurated on September 5 to carry out,” Chima said on Saturday.
“It wasn’t an easy task, but we went above and beyond to raise awareness about the election across the state.”
