After one year, the last member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) kidnapped by unknown assailants while they were travelling from Akwa Ibom to Sokoto State has regained freedom.

He is Solomon Bassey Daniel, one of the eight prospective NYSC members and a driver of Akwa Ibom Transport Corporation (AKTC) bus kidnapped on Zamfara Road on August 17, 2023 as they were heading to Sokoto for the national assignment.

Kidnapped on August 17, 2023, Solomon is a graduate of Laboratory Science from Afaha Ube Itam in Itu Local Government Area.

Confirming the news, Citizen Matthew Koffi Okono of Open Forum declared ‘‘FINALLY, SOLOMON BASSEY DANIEL IS FREE’’ in various WhatsApp groups.

‘‘God did what only He can do.

He’s currently receiving medical attention.

Thank you all for the prayers.

To God be the glory.’’

Earlier, the NYSC Director-General, Brig Gen Yusha’u D Ahmed, who had addressed the press on Friday, emphasised the importance of safety for Corps members, urging them to avoid travelling at night.

Ahmed reaffirmed that the welfare and security of all NYSC members remain the scheme’s top priority.

Ahmed recounted the incident, saying, “You will remember when these Corps members were travelling from Uyo in Akwa Ibom to Sokoto. They were kidnapped on August 17, 2024, on Funtua Bisau Road in Zamfara State.”

He explained that the NYSC, in collaboration with the Nigerian Army, Police, Department of State Services (DSS), and traditional rulers, worked tirelessly to secure the release of the Corps members.

The Director-General also mentioned a meeting with the governor of Zamfara State, which played a crucial role in the operation.
