A Federal High Court in Abuja has nullified the impeachment of Phillip Shuaibu as Deputy Governor of Edo State.
Justice James Omotosho ruled on Wednesday that the Edo State House of Assembly did not follow due process in its impeachment proceedings against Shuaibu.
In his judgment, Justice Omotosho stated that the allegations used to justify the impeachment did not amount to gross misconduct under the law. Consequently, he ordered Shuaibu’s immediate reinstatement.
Shuaibu, present in court, was visibly moved and shed tears of joy upon hearing the verdict.
The judge also directed the Inspector General of Police (IGP) to provide Shuaibu with the necessary security to resume and perform his duties until the end of his tenure. Furthermore, Justice Omotosho nullified the appointment of another deputy governor in Shuaibu’s place.
