THE family of Bassey Daniel, one of the prospective National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, members from Akwa Ibom State, kidnapped in Zamfara State has called on relevant stakeholders, including the state government to help rescue him.
Daniel, an indigene of Itu Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State is the only remaining of the kidnapped victims yet to regain his freedom from the abductors.
It will be recalled that after one of the young graduates and the driver of Akwa Ibom Transport Company, AKTC, were freed in December 2023, Daniel and one female were left behind in the kidnapper’s den.
However, on June 12, 2024, the Zamfara State kidnappers decided to free their female victim, leaving Daniel behind.
Daniels family member, Mr. Umoh, who spoke to Vanguard, yesterday, lamented: “Our hope was dashed when our son was not released along with the female victim last two weeks. We were told that two of them will be freed the same time, only the female was allowed to go.
“Now it is remaining only Solomon out the eight prospective NYSC members that were abducted last August. That young man is an only son of a poor widow.
“So, we are appealing to all the stakeholders, security agencies, the NYSC leadership, the media and Akwa Ibom State government, we need help to bring that young man back home to his mother. We are all worried about him, but all the same we are hopeful. This is all I can say for now.”
A woman and close friend to Bassey Daniel’s mother, who spoke to Vanguard in confidence, said: “That woman is very worried about her son. She calls me on phone almost every day asking if I have heard any news about her son. I pray that young man returns home very soon.“
