Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has called on newly sworn-in corps members to be enterprising, be counted among good ambassadors and positive change agents of the nation.
Sanwo-Olu made the call at the official opening and swearing-in of 2024 Batch A, Stream II orientation course at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Camp, Iyana-Ipaja, Age, Lagos.
Sanwo-Olu was represented by Olugbenga Oyerinde, the Lagos State Commissioner for Special Duties and Intergovernmental Relations.
“Your journey of national service has begun, offering a chance to contribute meaningfully to the development of our beloved nation.
“Remember the incredible legacy established by your predecessors. I urge you to emulate their commitment, patriotism and contribute your quota to the growth of our fatherland.
“Do not pay lip service to words of the oath of allegiance which you have sworn today, rather let it fuel your commitment to national development, unity and cohesion,” said the governor.
He commended Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa, the State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos, her team and other supporting agencies for successfully kick-starting the orientation programme.
He pledged that the state would continue to provide an enabling environment for the scheme to discharge its duties and enable the corps members serve the nation diligently.
Earlier, Baderinwa said a total of 4,450 corps members (1,785 males and 2,665 females) were posted to Lagos State for the service year, while some had been deployed to Ogun and Osun States respectively for the orientation programme.
