The Akwa lbom state government says it will construct 486 rural roads in 2025 to boost agriculture and food production in the state.

The Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr Offiong Offor, disclosed this at a press briefing on Wednesday in Uyo.

Offor said that the state Rural Access and Agricultural Marketing Project would collaborate with the World Bank and the French Development Agency to implement the project.

”This roads will be constructed in agriculturally developed areas across the state.

”This project will help to reduce post-harvest losses because farm produce will be easily conveyed to urban areas,” she said.

She further said that the state government would remain committed towards supporting farmers through the distribution of farm inputs.

The commissioner said that the Gov. Umo Eno-led government was fully willing to support cooperative societies to ensure more productive farming.

”When people come together, ideas will come, and funds will be easily accessed for production, so group farming is encouraged.

”The Young Farmers Club has been revived in public schools to foster interest and participation of students in farming activities,” she said.

Offor urged Akwa Ibom people to embrace farming and support the government’s investment in agriculture to ensure improved quality of life.
