Arewa leader in the south Alhaji Musa Saidu has reassured President Bola Tinubu that northerners will vote massively again for him in the next presidential election.
Speaking against the backdrop of comment by some elders in the north that they regretted voting for Tinubu as president, Saidu said most of the northern elders did not vote for Tinubu during the last election, adding that they supported the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Labour Party.
He recalled that he was among northern leaders that mobilized openly for Tinubu, stressing that most of the votes for Tinubu came from the ordinary people because they were those he and few other supporters of Tinubu reached out to in the north.
“Northern elders did not vote for Tinubu. Some of them were in the media then pushing for their preferred candidates. We can’t say northern elders voted for Tinubu.
“Some northern elders came to Port Harcourt when northerners were killed during Wike’s government, they did not come to see families of those killed or even the northern community in the state. They stopped at the Government House. I made it clear then in several media outlets that the governor did not compensate families of northerners killed by in a crisis then in Port Harcourt. The elders that came didn’t even visit families of those killed. I buried all of them in Port Harcourt.
“We shouted then that the state government should take care of families of those killed. The government took care of families of the police killed in the crisis but ignored the northerners killed.
“To say they will not vote for Tinubu should not make him panic. We will vote for Tinubu again. The northern elders kept quiet on insecurity during Buhari”s time for reasons best known to them. Buhari destroyed Nigeria’s economy.
“The northern elders did not vote for Tinubu we did. If God says he will come back he will, we will vote for him.
“The statement of the northern elders should be disregarded, they can’t regret when they didn’t support Tinubu. One of them supported Labour Party because of his brother contesting.
“The contract Tinubu has is with the voters and we will vote for him again. Tinubu should not panic, northerners voted for him.
“Tinubu inherited a collapsed economy, security system because northern elders kept quiet. So what Tinubu needs now is the support to rebuild the country and not threat from any group. “
