Gov Eno Directs Immediate Commencement Of Ekritam-Mbiaya Road Construction

…felicitates Akpabio-Ukafia, Ekanem-Ibanga’s families on children’s marriages

Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has ordered an inquiry into the Ekritam-Mbiaya road construction project, with the purpose of unravelling the status of the contract, possible impediments and ensuring immediate take off of the project.

Governor Eno gave the directive while speaking at a marriage ceremony between Miss Veronica Offiong Akpabio and Master Waribo Ukafia at the Offiong Akpabio family compound in Mbiaya, Uruan Local Government Area.

The governor, however, announced government’s readiness to commence construction of Ekritam-Mbiaya road and directed the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Professor Eno Ibanga to find possible factors responsible for the non execution of the project and maintained that a contract had already been awarded by the state government.

He assured of the State government’s commitment to meeting up with necessary obligations on its side to ensure execution of the project and demanded that all parties involved should work towards the accomplishment of government’s good intentions for the people of the area.

In his words, “I came on this road, it didn’t look too good to me, I’ve asked the Commissioner for Works to make sure that this road is fixed. I saw that it has been stopped somewhere. If the contractor has abandoned the job, let us know. If we are the ones owing, please pay him let him continue. That’s the gift I can give to you on this occasion.”

On the marriage, Governor Eno commended the mother of the bride, who is the Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in the State, Obonganwan Meme Akpabio, for being intentional about raising a daughter that has made the family proud, and congratulated the Akpabio and Ukafia families of Uruan and Eastern Obolo LGAs on the marriage of their children.

He described the marriage as significant to the unity of the state as it goes beyond just a union of the two individuals, to a unification of the two distant ethnic backgrounds they belong.

The governor counselled the couple to endeavour to make the best of their relationship with each other and avoid unnecessary third party involvement in their marriage, stressing on the importance of the groom to show leadership and take responsibility for whatever his wife and family turnout to be.

In a related development, Governor Umo Eno, honoured an age- long relationship with the David Ekanem family, as he joined them to celebrate the traditional marriage ceremony of their daughter, Nsisong, to her heartthrob, Blessing Lawrence Ibanga, at Government Primary School, Afaha Ube Itam, Ikot Ekpene road, Uyo.
