The Akwa Ibom State Government has begun the selection process for medical professionals who intend to volunteer at the AKSG FREE MEDICAL & SURGICAL OUTREACH (IKOT EKPENE SENATORIAL DISTRICT) an initiative that was announced by Governor Umo Eno, over two weeks ago.

The news of the medical outreach warmly received by the people of the senatorial district, is coming on the heels of the successful outreach in Uyo and Oron respectively, earlier in the month.

The Free Medical Outreach is scheduled to hold at General Hospital, Ikot Ekpene between 11-16th March, 2024.

Speaking to journalists, the Honourable Commissioner for Health, Prof Augustine Vincent Umoh, stated that “medical professionals who are willing to partner with the Government have been invited to offer their professional expertise to assist the poor and vulnerable in the society address some of the health challenges militating against their wellbeing, quality of life and economic productivity.”

He called on professional bodies such as the NMA, PSN, AMLSN, NANNM among others to partner with the Government in delivering succour to the people of Ikot Ekpene district particularly the rural dwellers.

Prof Umoh thanked the Governor Eno for not just being a health-friendly Governor but also responding to the yearnings of the people through his pragmatic approach to governance and service delivery to the people.

In his reaction, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Medicals, Dr Ekem Emmanuel John, praised the Governor, Pst Umo Eno for his visionary approach to healthcare delivery in Akwa Ibom State.

He highlighted that while the Governor was embarking on the long term approach of healthcare infrastructure renaissance with emphasis on Primary Healthcare in particular and secondary/tertiary training institutions in general, his short-term strategy of immediate healthcare interventions through the series of free medical outreaches was a win-win for all.

He further thanked a corporate strategic partner, Hensek Integrated Services for announcing his willingness to partner with the Government to deliver this service.
