President Bola Tinubu has called for the suspension of sanctions imposed on Niger Republic, Mali, Burkina Faso, and Guinea by the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
A post on X handle of Olusegun Dada- Special Assistant to the President on Social Media, said Tinubu made the call at ECOWAS extraordinary meeting in Abuja on Saturday, February 24, 2024.
ECOWAS had imposed major economic sanctions on Niger Republic, Mali and Burkina Faso following the decisions of military leaders to overthrow democratic elected governments in the West African countries.
Recall that the three countries had a few weeks ago announced a collective decision to pull out from the regional bloc, which is currently chairer by Tinubu, citing unnecessary foreign influence.
